Closet Organization Tips for Installing Systems and Components!
In this step, you'll discover closet organization tips for installing your products. Your closet was cleared and repaired in the first step and you later chose and sourced organizing systems according to your needs and your space. You should now be ready to install these products.
Before you begin, get your toolkit in order and make sure that you have everything that you need. A battery powered or chargeable cordless drill is a must! Other essential tools are measuring tape, hammer, level, and a pencil with an eraser. You'll also need to light the space with a lamp or flashlight.
Next, determine what type of wall you have, if you don't already know. This is important in order to determine the fasteners that you need to use. Sheetrock (drywall), masonry and plaster are the three most common types.
Drill a small hole in a discreet place on your wall. If resistance is minimal and you hit empty space after approximately 3/4 of an inch, you likely have drywall. If you encounter considerable resistance, however, it's likely masonry or plaster. You can tell which by the colour of the drill dust. Masonry would produce red drill dust and plaster, white drill dust.
Once you've determnied the type of walls you have, you can choose the appropriate fasteners for your system. Lead anchors are appropriate for use in masonry and plaster. For drywall, use E-Z Anchors or toggle bolts.
Now you are ready to begin the actual installation. Here are some closet organization tips to make the job go smoothly:
- Review the instructions carefully.
- Lay everything out on the bed. Ensure that you understand how everything fits together and how the system "works".
- Assembly instructions can be tricky. Before adding a component part, ensure that you have the right part and that it's positioned correctly.
- Before you drill into the wall consider the height of the system and make sure that you leave breathing space at the top and the bottom.
- Similarly, you should space each component appropriately. This not only enhances aesthetic appeal but also ensures easy and convenient access to your belongings.
If this is all too complex for you or if you don't have the time or inclination to do the job, a Professional Closet Organizer can help! A good organizer is familiar with most closet organizing products and can assist you with assembly and installation.
Once you've installed your system, you are ready to repack your clothing, footware and accessories. You'll discover closet organization tips for doing so in the next step.
