Choosing Among the Categories of Closet Organizing Products!
You should now be ready to make some broad choices among the available categories of closet organizing products. In previous steps, you emptied your closet, decluttered your wardrobe, an sorted your belongings.
You'll now have to decide between installing one of two types of systems or using a combination of closet organizing products. The first system type has a skeletal structure that attaches to the walls. The second type is self supporting. It has it's own walls and a door. There is an endless variety of individual organizing products that can be combined in infinite ways. Your decision as to which of these alternatives best serve your needs will be determined by your space, your budget, whether you rent or own, and your skills and ability.
If you have an existing closet, a wall supported closet system or a combination of products would work for you. Self supporting systems are a great option if your bedroom currently does not have a closet as these systems have walls and a door.
Next, consider your budget. Systems are available at a variety of price points and are highly affordable. Shulte is more expensive than say Rubbermaid, but offers great comparative value. It is constructed for a lifetime of use and like the less expensive and less durable Rubbermaid option, can be changed as your needs change. If you have a very small budget, however, a combination of products may be your only option.
Closet organizing products that are easily transferred from place to place are also the best alternative for renters. Landlord restrictions might prevent you from drilling into the walls and systems are generally not easy to move once they are in place.
Owners can consider the full range of options. A system is highly recommended as it allows you to optimize your use of space in a way that would be difficult to simulate with individual products, although it can be done.
Finally, consider whether you have the skills and ability to install a system. The peices can be heavy and hard to handle. You'll need to use a drill and/or be able to screw together parts. If you can afford to hire someone to help you, this would not be an issue. Otherwise, you're probably best to stick with fully assembled products.
After weighing your options and considering your space and your needs, you should now know exactly which broad category of closet organizing products would work best for you. The next step is to determine which components or individual products you need.
