Locker Organizing
The objectives of locker organizing are twofold: to optimize the utilization of your storage space and, to enhance the ease of access to your belongings. The steps towards acheiving these objectives are as follows:
- To begin, make a list of the contents of your locker.
- Next, measure the locker's dimensions.
- Consider organizing products that would fit into your locker and would be appropriate for the type and volume of storage required. In the majority of cases, the best solution for a locker is shelving. Shelving enables you to store items from ground to ceiling and allows easy access to those items.
- Purchase the locker organizing product and assemble it.
- Empty your locker, box by box.
- Go through each item and decide what to keep and what to discard.
- Install your organizer.
- Repack the items that you intend to keep into the locker. Here are some tips to assist you in doing this task:
- Place items that you sometimes use within easy reach.
- Label each box and container as you pack it away.
- Items that are rarely or never used should be stored up high, down low, or in behind, out of the way. Keep items in this category to a minimum. They just occupy valuable space. If you never use an item, consider why you need it at all.
- Pack boxes side by side and not one in front of the other, if it can be avoided.
- If your locker is large, leave a path from the door to the back and store your belongings on the sides. Never block items in the back.
- If you still have more than can comfortably fit into your locker, you have two alternatives: continue decluttering or find an alternate space in your home, perhaps an attic or a basement, to store the overflow.
When organized properly, your locker will hold more than you would have imagined. You'll also know where everything is and be able able to retrieve items easily and conveniently.
